A workshop and consultation on the Draft Bill for the Review of Somalia’s Anti-Piracy and Anti-Kidnapping Lawcommenced on August 24, 2026, bringing together relevant stakeholders to discuss the proposed legal reforms.

The workshop provided a platform for participants to examine key provisions of the draft legislation, discuss existing legal and institutional gaps, and exchange views on strengthening Somalia’s legal response to piracy and kidnapping.

The consultation also focused on enhancing legal and institutional capacity, while ensuring that the proposed framework is practical, clear, and responsive to Somalia’s evolving maritime security and justice needs.

Stakeholder engagement is an important part of the legislative review process. Input from legal practitioners, government institutions, maritime stakeholders, and other relevant actors can help strengthen the draft and support its effective implementation.

The initiative reflects continued efforts to strengthen the rule of law, maritime security, and institutional capacity in Somalia, while developing a more effective legal framework to address piracy, kidnapping, and related crimes.
